Jack Purcell
John Edward "Jack" Purcell (December 24, 1903 – June 10, 1991) was the Canadian National Badminton Champion in 1929 and 1930, and world badminton champion in 1933. However, his lasting legacy to the world are the sports shoes that he designed in 1935, which are still popular to this day. With the style of a timeless casual shoe and the comfort of a sneaker, these durable hybrids provide the perfect complement to a laid back look - a genuine heritage classic.

About Jack Purcell
His canvas and rubber badminton sneaker was originally designed to provide more protection and support on badminton courts, and for many years they were manufactured by the B.F. Goodrich Company of Canada (best known for their tyres!). Check out the original advert opposite, dating back to those early years. And then, in the 1970s, Converse - ever a brand to recognise iconic footwear - purchased the trademark rights to Jack Purcell sneakers, which they still produce and sell today. The shoe is similar in appearance to Converse's Chuck Taylor All-Stars, but can be distinguished by the signature "smile" across the toe, and the signature light blue label on the sole.
